Free Online Parish Register Search

We have now made available an online searchable database of all the parish registers we have indexed so far, plus some additional material not yet published in book form. The records we have indexed (taken from Kirk Session material of the Church of Scotland and other Presbyterian churches) are not part of the Church of Scotland Old Parish Registers (or OPRs) as found on the Scotland's People site, and therefore contain many records of births, marriages and deaths which are not to be found anywhere else. Free Online Prison Record Search

We have now made available an online searchable database for all the prison registers we have indexed so far (Dumfries 1841-1848; Greenlaw 1840-1862; Jedburgh 1843-1869; Kelso 1844-1862; Peebles 1848-1862; and Selkirk 1828-1840, 1853-1878). This index does not contain all the information in our prison index books, such as the crime, but should enable you to identify someone in the records and get the relevant reference so that you can obtain more information.

NEW! - Free Online Paternity Case Search

We have now made available an online searchable database for paternity cases in Sheriff Courts in the south of Scotland (a few cases concerning desertion and breach of promise to marry are also included). At present, the index covers the years 1830-1914 at Dumfries, 1830-1914 at Duns, 1894-1914 at Hawick, 1831-1892 at Jedburgh, 1837-1914 at Peebles, and 1830-1914 at Selkirk, representing all surviving cases from 1830-1914 in the Register of Decrees for those courts. The index also includes 173 additional cases indexed from the original court papers (processes) for Jedburgh from 1822-1914, and cases from Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court from 1830-1850. Cases after 1914 have not been added to the index for privacy reasons, but will be added on an annual basis in future years. Other years and Sheriff Courts will soon be added, so please keep checking this page for updates. We gratefully acknowledge the assistance of Margaret Hamilton in this indexing project.
